The Symbol of Faith

(Also referred to as the Nicene-Constantinopolitan—or simply Nicene—Creed)

I. I believe in one God: the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible;

II. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-begotten, the One having been begotten of the Father before all the ages—Light of Light, true God of true God; having been begotten, not having been made; co-essential with the Father; by Whom all things were made;

III. Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from the heavens, and became incarnate of the Holy Spirit and of the Virgin Mary, and was made man;

IV. And was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried; and rose up the third day according to the Scriptures;

V. And ascended into the heavens, and sitteth at the right of the Father;

VI. And shall come again, with glory, to judge the living and the dead; of Whose kingdom there shall be no end;

VII. And in the Spirit, the Holy One, the Lord, the Giver of life; the One proceeding from the Father; Who with Father and Son is together being worshipped and being glorified; the One having spoken by the prophets.

VIII. In One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

IX. I confess one Baptism for remission of sins.

X. I look for the resurrection of the dead;

XII. And the life of the age to come. Amen.
